Parent Code of Conduct

As the parent, guardian, family member, or representative of a child participating in Hamden Youth Hockey and a member of the Hamden Youth Hockey Association, I acknowledge the following: 

• I will encourage my child to play by the rules. Remember, children learn best by example, so applaud the good plays of both teams. 
• I will not embarrass my child by yelling at players, coaches or officials. By showing a positive attitude toward the game and all its participants, my child will benefit. 
• I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit young athletes. 
• I understand that it is my role to teach my child sportsmanship, how to deal with success and failure, and to support my child’s development in the game. 
• I will learn the rules of the game and support the officials on and off the ice. This approach will help in the development and support of the game. Any criticism of the officials only hurts the game.
• I will support and promote fair play by encouraging my child to play by the rules. I will display good sportsmanship by applauding a good effort by both teams in victory and defeat. I will respect all players, coaches, and officials. 
• I recognize the importance of volunteer coaches. They are important to the development of my child and the sport. I will communicate with the coaches and support them. 
• I understand that when my child is on the ice, the coaches do the coaching. I will not yell instructions to my child from the sidelines or give my child instructions contrary to the coach. 
• I will respect locker rooms as private areas for players, coaches, and officials. 
• I will abide by the HYHA Social Media Code of Conduct. 

I understand that any violations of the Code of Conduct will be reviewed by the HYHA Board of Directors for possible sanctions up to and including suspension and/or expulsion from the program.

A member is defined as people directly involved with the Hamden Youth Hockey Association, including players, coaches, team managers, team support staff, parents and administrative staff.
