Peewee A's Sweep Weekend

HAMDEN - Despite facing a host of illnesses last week, the Peewee As took to the ice this weekend with the heart of a dragon. The result was three hard earned victories.

Facing a strong Ridgefield team at home in their first Saturday matchup, the dragons skated to a 6-3 victory. Defensemen Matt Stewart went coast to coast to score the goal that ended up securing the Dragon’s lead. Landon Stringfield, with the help of Jason Lightfoot and Luke Machado, provided the final goal of the game.

The Dragons then headed south to Terry Connors Rink for a hard-fought win against the Stamford Sharks. The Sharks are always a strong rival & the game went back and forth, neither team ever having more than a 1 goal lead. Jason Lightfoot and Luke Machado each scored two goals and provided an assist to push the dragons ahead. With 1:30 left in the game, the Sharks pulled the goalie, and the Dragons faced a long 6 on 5. The Dragons held firm and earned their second victory with a 5-4 win.

Sunday the Dragons headed to Cromwell to face the Whalers. Despite some tired legs, the Peewee As skated strong and kept the shots on goal. Luke Machado, Vin Mattei and Landon Stringfield were on fire as they combined for seven goals and multiple assists for each other. The Dragons finished the day with an 8-0 win, earning goalies Mason LaCroix & Nick Fortune a shutout and Landon Stringfield a hat trick and a play maker.

The dragons return to competition this Saturday at home against West Haven.
